KASANETETO POP ROMANCE ENG
i've been giving modern vocaloid a lot of slack lately, so i figured i would review a modern eng vocaloid song i actually really like. i had a huge DAEMON/DOLL binge where i would listen to the album over and over. the collection is a huge hit or miss, but Fire!!! is a big hit. jamie paige's way of tuning teto is absolutely perfect for this song, giving it the aggressive edge that the song needs. the song is delightfully firey and enjoyable, and it takes risks, especially with the vocals.
i love seeing the modern vocal synth technology be used to its full advantage by producers. Fire!!! is a song that could not have been made ten years ago, let alone 20.
HATSUNEMIKU POP HORROR ENG
static is one of those songs that had everything thrown into the chorus and left the rest of the song behind. half of this song is practically unlistenable, but the other half is pure gold. static is the best thing to come out of flavor foley so far, because of its unique premise and potential for fun animatics in the same way that gumi songs were used around the 2010s ( i don't really like spoken for or butcher vanity). it's so rare to see something new being done among mainstream producers.
i would not call this a 'good' song, but i would call it a song with promise. i look forward to seeing what flavor foley comes out with, even if i do think it keeps things too safe and suffers as a result.

i really hate how catchy this song is. the thing is, it sounds, quite good... exactly the type of upbeat vocaloid music i enjoy, with a few sprinklings of electro swing sprinkled in there, which i always love... but.........
there's so much to hate about the contents of this song. i had a pit in my stomach watching this damn video. there are all the staples of 'tetoslop' - from the channelcaststation art style, to the hacky reference humour... and to address the elephant in the room, it's a fun, cute, upbeat song about teto being a loveable pedophile. if this song was just about halloween and not about That, maybe i'd add this to a playlist as a guilty pleasure. and as an aside, i absolutely despise Ui. Shigure Ui, her inspiration and voice provider, is an infamous lolicon, and everything about Ui is designed to be used in songs that have lolicon in-jokes, even down to her debut, Still Waiting for Your Reply?
as fun and catchy as the actual music is, i will never be going out of my way to listen to this again.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that this is the best Luka song. It's emotional, intense and hypnotic, a song that is over far too soon. The delicate, heartstrings-tugging sounds of the piano contrast with the frantic guitar and crashing drums, which helps tell the song's tale of beauty and tragedy.
I think Luka sounds her best the more robotic she sounds, and here, her voice truly does sound like an instrument more than it does a voice, which is absolutely perfect for her softer vocals.
This is a song I can listen to over, and over, and over again. And I did, while writing this review. It's hard to know what to say about this song. It really just speaks for itself. Please, if you have not heard this song, do yourself the favour of listening to it.

A lot of my review of this song is nostalgia poisoned, so anyone who wants an unbiased review... look away...
This is the song that initially got me into vocaloid when I was around 12. I think it really taught me that these vocal synths can be used to tell stories. I loved this song. The aesthetic of it, the way it sounds... It's a song that is very close to my heart. I never truly looked into the lore of the Nazotoki/Nazokake series, but as a kid, the self-contained story of the song had me hooked. I have listened to Asking Riddles, but none of the subsequent songs. Possibly something to look into one day...
Despite that, however, I don't think it holds up as one of my favourites. I wouldn't recommend it to someone dabbling in vocaloid, as the way it is mixed is quite grating.
i'm very glad that SAWTOWNE took a risk here with releasing a song about catholic fujo miku. the subject matter is close to home especially as someone who was definitely a gay lemons lover althroughout high school even if i had no religious shame about it XD. i'm excited to see what SAWTOWNE will do in future!! very exciting to have an english producer reach this kinda success hehe. the music video alone bumps this up to the rating it is.
MEGURINELUKA TRANCE LAMENT ENG
ugh this song is so pretty and makes me so emotional. trance music is extremely nostalgic to me. there was basically nothing about this song online, since it comes from taishi, who isn't as popular as hundreds of other producers. this song is a real hidden gem, and this one makes me want to check out taishi's other work. i love this song so much.
one of my favourite genres to use vocaloid is dubstep music, which is also probably because i love trance/dubstep in general haha. in particular, the kind that'd be in those 2010s gaming mixes. and this song brings back so much nostalgia ... reminds me of playing on animal jam and listening to stuff like this. so calming and nice.
i almost don't WANT to recommend it so i can keep this one to myself! but i will recommend it. i get if its not ur cup of tea but i adore it...
oh man this is probably the most obscure vocaloid song that i will cover. sitting right now at under 4,000 views... honestly i wish i could give this a higher rating since its such a small producer but its just kind of... not great... i really want to like this song! but yknow. lol
ONE THING I WILL SAY is that it does the thing that all songs in 2016 did where there's an interlude of random droning and i LOVE that ive NEVER seen that specific kind of weird autotuning done like this before. PLEASE i wanna see that kinda thing in more vocaloid songs.
the song is very unique and theres def parts of it i do like but it sits at a low rating.

now the two star rating may look daunting, but don't get me wrong, i like this song decently enough for what it is. it's a rare political vocaloid song, and is actually speculative dystopian. kinda cool. it's about the declining birthrate in japan which has been a point of political contention for yearss over there. its cool to see some kinda commentary on it through a vocaloid song of all things... the song is about a place where parents can leave their kids for as long as they want if they're busy. abandoning them at the children bank for any reason, for any length of time... jeez.
anyway, as for the actual song, i do enjoy it as a condiut to tell the story. appropriately slow and creepy, but not too creepy to represent the fact this is kind of like an advertisement. but i personally think an adult vocaloid should have been used, or even a character like kaai yuki. cmon doesnt this song SCREAM the kinda creepy song yuki is usually used for??
my final thoughts: i do recommend a listen for people interested in more obscure dark vocaloid songs, but this one's definitely not getting added to my playlist.
